JANUARY 14, 2010: ACCEPTING ENROLLMENT FOR CITIZEN'S POLICE ACADEMY!
When the next Suwanee Citizens Police Academy class graduates in April, the number of alumni of this eight-week “glimpse behind the badge” will total more than 300. The Suwanee Police Department has offered its Citizens Police Academy roughly twice a year since 2000 as a means to help citizens gain a better understanding of the risks and responsibilities of officers and to strengthen the bond of friendship and cooperation between citizens and the police department.

The next academy begins February 16. Classes will be from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings through April 5.

The deadline for notarized applications is Friday, February 6. Participants must be at least 19 years old; preference is given to Suwanee residents or to those who work in the City of Suwanee.

Class topics include crime scene processing, traffic stops, building searches, crime prevention, crime scene processing, and narcotics identification.  For more information, contact:

OCTOBER 19, 2009: BOARD MEMBER RESIGNS
Paul Young has resigned his post from the Board of Directors as he has sold his house, and is moving out of the neighborhood.  The Board thanks Paul for his service.  The Board will continue as a 4-person group for now, but may consider appointing a resident to the open post in the future.
OCTOBER 1, 2009: BOARD APPOINTS 5TH MEMBER

The Board of Directors appointed Karen Moody to the 5th open position on the Board of Directors.  All positions are now filled.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2009: ELECTIONS COMPLETE

Thanks to all who came to last night's Annual Meeting where elections were held for 3 open positions for the Board of Directors.  Unfortunately, there were only 2 nominees for the positions, so the Board still has an open seat.  On the positive side, we had just enough attendees and proxies to declare a quorum, so the results of the election are valid.  Congratulations to new Board Members Ryan Thaxton and Chuck Edwards!  They join incumbents Scott Windish and Paul Young.  The new Board will meet to determine positions amongst themselves, and consider appointing someone to the remaining open seat.  Stay tuned.
