P.A.C.T. (POLICE AND CITIZENS TOGETHER)

The Suwanee Police Department has created a community-based action program that encourages residents to help maintain the quality of life within their own communities. PACT, which stands for Police and Citizens Together, is designed to complement Neighborhood Watch programs.

Through PACT, a specific officer is assigned as a liaison to each of the City's neighborhoods or subdivisions. The officer/liaison will work with residents on quality-of-life issues such as speeding, assist residents in taking measures to prevent crimes, and facilitate three community meetings each year.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2009: RESIDENT ATTACKED ON GREENWAY!

Safety First!  Be aware of your surroundings!

An area resident reported to the Suwanee Police Department that a man attempted to assault her last evening while she was on the soft-surface trail at Suwanee Creek Park.  Fortunately, she was able to flee unharmed.

The only description police have of the suspect is of a male approximately 6-foot tall in dark clothing, wearing long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and dark-colored baseball cap. If you saw anyone matching this description, please contact Det. Sgt. Shane Edmisten at 770/945-8995.

This is the first such reported incident since the popular trail opened more than 15 years ago. Thousands of people use the trail annually.
The police department offers the following reminders to promote personal safety while using the greenway:
    •    Use the trails with others; do not go alone.
    •    Do not use the greenway after dark.
    •    Carry pepper spray and your cell phone with you.
    •    Refrain from using iPods or other MP3 players, or at minimum keep the volume down low so that you can hear what's going on around you.
    •    Be aware of your surroundings - your location on the greenway, people around you, and trail conditions.
    •    Let someone know where you're going (and specifically your planned route along the trail) and when you expect to return.
    •    Report any suspicious individuals or activities to the Suwanee Police Department.
